This has to be the most accessible Boredoms record that I have heard so far. Often, EYヨ and company can reach way our far. Sometimes catching small pieces of heaven and showing us what it sounds like. Other times they reach a bit further and try to break our eardrums. This album is moving away from some of the harsher noise, and more into tribal, psychedelia, freakout music. It's sometimes even meditative. This album sounds exceptionally great in my headphones, while laying in the grass at the park.

Ghost - Second Time Around (1992)

 

Information

I feel that the cover for Ghost's sophomore release captures the serenity of this recording, perfectly. There's still some beautiful freak-outs, but the overall vibe is calmer and more collected, in my opinion. Considering their debut to the world began with Batoh screaming at the top of his lungs, Second Time Around sweetly guides you in before they blast off. 

They used quite the collection of instruments for this record. Some of the more advanced listed are, 'Holy Talking', 'Sympathy', and my favorite instrument of all, which is clearly noticeable through the whole record, 'Smile'. Not to mention the 'some nameless bells and stones' that the whole band took part in playing. I really like the growth with this set. Click below and chill.

This shit kicks from front to back. Banging ass death metal from Denver, this is the quartet's most ambitious project yet. Flooded with driving solos and extended passages or what they like to refer to as cosmic soundscapes, this record rose to instant classic status before it was even released. Let this record blast through those winter chills.

Information

There's nothing more pleasing then cruising at night with the sounds of this album drifting out of your speakers. It has some interesting freak-out moments, some spooky psych, and a whole lot of rock 'n' roll. I'm obsessed with the title track and the horns. They create a lot of tension on what could only be described as a twisted love song. Get this, dim the lights, and take that trip.

Keeping in tune with yesterday's post, I'd like to introduce those of you whom haven't had the pleasure of experiencing Japan's Ghost just yet. What a great trip you will have with this record. Freak-outs, into meditative chanting, into free jazz explorations, into fuzzed-out psych, this record has it all. Their history is just as interesting. Performing in Buddhist temples, to squatting in abandoned train stations in Tokyo, Ghost seems to move through time at their own will. I enjoyed this record the most during  late-night listens.

Headdress – Lunes (2009)

 

Information

Lunes marks a deviation in sound and growth from their first album. Turquoise felt like a long walk through the desert, while Lunes feels like a hallucination brought on by dehydration and too much sun. Big ass wall of sound, disembodied voices, and densely layered guitar drones make their second effort a beautiful follow-up. Put on some sunglasses and take this album for a walk.

Sleestak - Aeon (2020)

Information

I snatched this album a few days after it dropped solely on the album art alone. The 20 point buck drew me in and made me want to take that ride and I am glad I listened. Sleestak melds progressive-metal and psychedelia jams in just the right way. There's even a Pink Floyd cover that was done actual justice. The album runs $4.99 on their bandcamp site. I highly recommend you slide over there and pick up a legit copy if you're into it. This is definitely one of my favorite albums of 2020.

About a decade ago I used to carry around one of those 6th Gen iPod Nano's. The little one with the screen and a measly 32gb to cram in all of the necessary records you needed to get through the workweek. So whatever made the cut and sync to the device actually meant something to you. Headdress was the one groups that always made the cut. This is a straight-up hazy ass smoke filled slow burning record. I easily listened to this at least once a day everyday in the summer of 2010. I highly recommend giving Turquoise a spin. Works best at early morning/late evening.

The Flaming Lips - American Head (2020)

 

Information

I've been on the fence with the Lips forever. I dig their music, but honestly Wayne's voice kills the mood for me sometimes. It works well for this set, and I will say, this is definitely one of the saddest records I've heard in a long time. It deals with typical Lips themes. Drugs, Space, Loneliness, Death. This year in a fucking nutshell. So if you're looking for a little more pain, and a little more psychedelia, give this a spin.

Mystic Siva - Mystic Siva (1970)

Nostalgia inducing hard blues with elements of psychedelic. A very short lived 70's Detroit outfit. There's limited information on these guys, but the album is definitely worth a spin. Especially on lazy ass Sunday afternoons.
