Teeth - Finite (2021)

Extremely crushing with subtle hints of beauty dispersed over 5 tracks, this release, albiet short, left me feeling awestruck. What seperates these dudes from what's mostly labeld death is their use of dissonance, making their tracks feel large and open. I am really into this release. Not to mention the vinyl format of this album is fucking amazing. Check it out here and really consider purchasing a copy.

Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Frozen Corpse Stuffed with Dope (2002)

There is absolutely nothing I can write about these dudes, to make this record appealing to anyone. It's 34 minutes of complete batshit crazy nonsense. This record came out when I was a teenager and made it's way through my cicrle until it landed in my stero in my bedroom at like 8 pm on a random school night. All I could do was laugh at how brutal and stupid it all sounded to me. Fastforward 20 years later and I can't help but chuckle when I press play.

Master - Vindictive Miscreant (2018)

This record was my introduction to Thrash legends Master. It's evident that I'm playing catch-up. Ironically they're originally from my hometown of Chicago, but I somehow missed the call on these dudes. I will say that every time I listen to this album I laugh my ass off becuase Paul Speckmann's vocals are batshit crazy. It's pretty obvious he spent his early years spinning the oldschool legends. Take this one for a walk, you'll enjoy it.

Imperial Triumphant - Inceste (2016)

Information

The first time I heard these dudes I thought I was having a stroke. The noise coming out of my headphones was increible. I have never heard anything closely resembling this amount of intensity, while also weaving intricate layers of classical and jazz into the mix. The only other group I’ve heard come close to this would be Painkiller, which will shortly have a write up of its own. The collection presented here are what the group considers the B-Sides to their critically acclaimed 2nd record

The Church - Seance (1983)

Information

Australian psych-master's 3rd album offers up a darker, more moody effort then their first 2 recordings. Sometimes it's difficult to follow a group with a career spanning over 40+ years, doubly so with a catalog as impressive as theirs. Fortunately enough for me, each record is fantastic. No matter where you stick your face in, you’ll be met with really great tunes. Light some candles and enjoy this one.

Tomasz Stańko Quintet - Purple Sun (1973)

There's an incredible amount of energy on this record. Stańko blows some expressive phrases that will lodge themselves into your psyche, and show up at some of the most in inopportune moments. Like when you're at the store, shopping for toilet paper and you start scatting those same phrases out loud, unbeknownst to yourself, in a crowded isle.

Frank Lowe - Decision in Paradise (1984)

I was drawn to this record by the simplicity of the cover. It reminded me of this murual I seen as a kid, when I would visit the downtown area on the weekends, with my Grandmother. I'm only familiar with Frank's sophomore record, which completely blew my brains out, so it was only fitting to see if he still had the chops mid-career. Needless to say this record does not dissppoint. Doubly so with the group Frank has playing with him. Most notably the prolific trumpeter Don Cherry. I've been meaning to get around to posting his Brown Rice album, which to me is his magnum opus.

Arctic - Arctic (2016)

If ever there were to be a spinoff of the rebels time spent on Hoss, I would certainly hope this would album be the soundtrack. 5 tracks drenched in stoney blue haze for your lazy sunday afternoons.

Acid Mammoth - Acid Mammoth (2017)

Greece's resident doom masters fuzzy selftitled debut release channels the darkness we all needed in our lives. This record is slow, heavy and killer. Eternal Sleep has to be the leading track for me on this effort. If these guys ever make it stateside, remotely near me, I'm going to be front and center. Grab yourself a stiff drink, something edible, and give this a spin.

Albert King - Born Under a Bad Sign (1967)

The 2nd compilation of blues music released by the late Alber King. I favor this electric blues sound more than most and find myself reaching for this record often. Besides, what a badass he was. Not only did he influence Stevie but he also wailed on a guitar made for kings, pun intended.

Black Flag - My War (1984)

Towards the very end of the title track, Rollins screams so fucking hard that his voice almost resembles guitar feedback. Every time I hear that track it reminds me of the end of The Lawmower Man. There's strong evidence  at the end of Damaged [see Damaged I] of the route the group would eventually take on this release. Apparently it caused a bit of a stir amongst the fanbase at the time, but fuck 'em, this record sounds great. Turn it up to full volume and scream along.

Frostnatt - Den Russiske Tomheten (2020)

It's been a while. It's also been snowing like fucking crazy. Keeping us locked in the house until there's enough time to shovel out the cars in preperation of work the next day. The domestic life is bittersweet. I've been listening to this on cold, snowy nights. It warms my chilled heart. Give it a shot, and if you like it, buy a copy.
